The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has released the final selection list for the posts of Social Worker/Medical Social Worker under the Health and Medical Education Department. A total of 09 vacancies were advertised vide Notification No. 02 of 2021 dated 26.03.2021.
The selection process included a written exam conducted from 17.08.2021 to 25.08.2021. Based on merit, shortlisted candidates were called for document verification from 20.11.2021 to 04.12.2021. Initially, the selection list was challenged in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Srinagar in case no. TA 5616/2021 and TA 221/2021. However, CAT dismissed the cases and allowed JKSSB to continue with the selection process as per notification 02/2021.
This order was challenged in the High Court of J&K and Ladakh at Srinagar in WPC No. 2682/2022. The High Court also upheld CAT’s decision and allowed JKSSB to conclude the selection process. Thereafter, JKSSB constituted a selection committee vide order no. 277-JKSSB of 2022 dated 08.10.2022 to finalize the selection.
The provisional selection list prepared by the selection committee was approved by JKSSB in its 253rd board meeting held on 05.01.2024. Candidates were given 3 days to submit representations against the provisional list. After examining the representations, JKSSB approved the final selection list in its 254th board meeting.
The final selection list has been notified vide notification no. 12-Selection of 2024 dated 02.02.2024. As per the notice, the selection is subject to outcome of any pending court cases involving the candidates. Formal recommendation letters will be issued to the Health and Medical Education Department separately.
The recruited Social Workers/Medical Social Workers will be posted in the Kashmir division. The posts carry pay level 6 (Rs.35400-112400) as per 7th Pay Commission. The selected candidates will have to submit all documents in original for verification by the department.

This recruitment drive has concluded almost 3 years after notification of vacancies. Selected candidates will fill urgent vacancies of Social Workers in government hospitals of Kashmir division. With proper counseling and medical assistance, these Social Workers are expected to improve patient care and welfare services.
The final selection list has been uploaded on the official website of JKSSB. Candidates can check their result using their roll number and other credentials. The selection is an important step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure and services in J&K. It will also provide employment opportunities to qualified candidates of the region.
