‎ECI lifts Model Code of Conduct in Haryana, J&K

Srinagar, Oct 10 (NVI): The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has officially been lifted in the State of Haryana and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, following the conclusion of the 2024 Legislative Assembly elections.

The Election Commission of India announced that the MCC, which came into effect with the declaration of election schedules, is no longer in operation after the results were declared.

In a directive issued by the Cabinet Secretary of the Government of India, the Chief Secretaries of Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, along with their respective Chief Electoral Officers, have been informed of this development. The officials are requested to ensure that all concerned parties are notified of the removal of the restrictions imposed by the MCC.

The MCC had been enforced to maintain a level playing field for all political parties during the election period, regulating activities such as campaign conduct, public announcements, and government actions. With the election process now concluded and the results announced, regular governance activities can resume without the restrictions imposed by the code.

This development marks the completion of the electoral process in both regions, allowing the newly elected assemblies to take charge and begin their legislative duties.(News Vibes of India)
