New Winter train Timetable Introduced for Kashmir Railways to Improve Efficiency
Srinagar, Feb 19 – Indian Railways has released a new winter train timetable for its extensive rail network in the Kashmir Valley, which will come into effect on February 21, 2024. The revised schedule contains updated arrival and departure timings for all daily passenger trains running between Baramulla in the north to Banihal in the south of the valley.
According to the Northern Railways division, the new timetable has been designed to improve punctuality and operational efficiency during the winter months. Some of the key changes introduced are:
– The Chandigarh-Kashmir Express (Train 04639) and Kashmir-Chandigarh Express (04640) will now operate 6 days a week, except on Sundays. These trains will run on the existing paths of trains 04620, 04622, 04617, 04614 and 04619 on different days.
– The Banihal-Baramulla DEMU (04688) and Baramulla-Banihal DEMU (04687) will also operate 6 days a week, except on Fridays.
– Minor changes have been made in the arrival and departure timings of many trains at stations like Pampore, Awantipura, Sadura, Qazigund, Banihal, etc. to improve punctuality.
– No new trains have been introduced in the valley under the new timetable.
Railway officials said the revised schedule has been carefully planned keeping in mind the climatic conditions and passenger demand during winters. The focus is on providing reliable train services with minimum delays and cancellations.
Regular rail passengers have been advised to take note of the revised schedule and plan their journeys accordingly. The full timetable with station-wise timings is available on the Northern Railways website. Officials have appealed to the public to cooperate with the Railways in implementing the new timetable smoothly.

This is the first major timetable overhaul by the Railways during the winter months in Kashmir valley. The coming days will test whether the new schedule brings the promised efficiency improvement in train operations or not.
