National Child Development Council sounds alarm on work-related stress after CA’s tragic death

Srinagar, 24 Sept: The National Child Development Council (NCDC) has expressed deep concern over the recent death of 26-year-old Pune-based Chartered Accountant, Anna Sebastian Perayil, allegedly due to excessive workload and work stress. This tragic incident has sparked a nationwide conversation about the need for better workplace welfare and stress management.

Perayil, who joined Ernst & Young (EY) in March 2024, succumbed to the pressure just four months later, leaving behind a devastated family. Her mother, Anita Augustine, has spoken out about the unbearable workload and lack of support her daughter faced, highlighting the toxic work culture that prioritizes productivity over employee well-being.

The NCDC core committee members have emphasized the urgency to ease work assignments and conduct stress-reduction workshops to benefit employees. They stressed the importance of job satisfaction, stress-relieving activities, and considering individual capabilities when assigning tasks. The council also advocated for companies to prioritize employees’ physical and mental health.
